Monday!

The school day didn't go as I hoped.  There were special events happening all day and it didn't run as smoothly as was hoped.  I'm fairly certain that most of the students had fun and that is what's important.  The Dungeons and Dragons Club also didn't go as well as I had hoped so I will be working on that more this week.  Getting a better handle on the monsters that I can pull out of my hat will help.  I've also been listening to a podcast, occasionally watching Youtube videos and a friend loaned me a book.

Although the day didn't go as I would have liked, it wasn't all bad.  Watching the kids play and work together was fun.  Coming up with ideas for the D&D game today was also fun.  The ideas I had worked on so hard over the last few days were smashed when the player that I was aiming them for had other plans.  But I was able to rethink my strategy and all seemed to go well.   That bit of reorganizing my thoughts and thinking fairly quickly are my happy things for today.  Improvement can be made, but it wasn't a disaster.  😊

Rainy Sunday

At school tomorrow there was supposed to be a field day sort of activity for all the students and faculty with scavenger hunts and things planned outside, all day.  It is currently raining at my home and school will be starting in about 11 hours.  We have already received a message from the principal to be prepared for a plan B because of the wet fields.  Things will be interesting tomorrow.

Today I breakfasted at writing group for about 40 minutes where I mostly talked Dungeons and Dragons with people.  I keep learning new things but I still feel behind the curve.

There was a family lunch to go to after breakfast was about an hour away.  I met some cousins I hadn't met before.  Kind of distant cousins and I wish I had written that information down.  Something like my grandmother's cousin's daughter and her daughter.  None of us really stayed too long, my aunt is 104 and tires easily when more than a few people visit at a time.

After lunch I headed to a friend's house for weaving circle.  I left my loom in the car though because my hand that I did all the sanding with yesterday is still bothering me.  I am icing it as I type.  I did bring the apron I have been smocking and got a little bit of that done.  There were many interesting projects around the room.  There were people embroidering, weaving and I think someone was working on a Kumihimo cord.

So many things to choose from today to be my happy.  Friends, family then more friends and then back home to family, phew.  All these are wonderful and do make me happy but for today I am adding the gift I received from friends-

Waterproof pen and paper for hiking.
These are what I would have put onto a list of
things I want but don't really need for hiking.
Now to plan a hike to bring them too...

Family!

Shaking

As I finished sanding the last piece of wood all I could think was that I should have stopped before taking the last two and a very determined in my head the I will finish these.  It was an afternoon of helping make benches and wooden poles.  My task was using the electric sander and smoothing the wood out.  It wasn't just me, but between me and two other ladies we sanded 72 wooden poles and 12 or 13 bench tops.  If I did this stuff more often I probably would have been faster at it.  We all had a production line going and worked well together.  It was a lot of fun, I just wish my hand wasn't still shaking from all the vibrations.

This morning Gideon and I went to the Farmer's Market and got treats for after lunch.  Happy smiling Gideon and a day with friends are me happy things for today.

May the Fourth be with you.

There are so many things I want to do this weekend but I am so busy I'm not sure what will get accomplished.  This afternoon I played with Gideon before going to an SCA meeting.  The meeting was in town so I walked to it.  It started to rain right as we were leaving and I ended up getting a ride home.  Tomorrow I am watching Gideon in the morning and then bringing him to his other grandparents for the afternoon so I can volunteer helping to finish and stain benches.  Sunday I have a family lunch and weaving circle to attend.  Phew.

Traveling by foot allows for getting closer to the trees that are budding and flowering now that spring is in full force.  These are my happy for today.

Excuse my finger...

Stormy

There was a quick storm that came through at school this afternoon.  One minute it was just cloudy and then the rain started and came down in sheets.  After the smell of wet soil, freshly cleaned from the rain drifted in the window on the heavy air.  Before leaving the windows were closed so there won't be a clean earth smell tomorrow when I get to class.

Gideon and I looked for games to play while his parents were off at a movie tonight.  First we tried Operation, but the batteries had died and started to corrode, so that game was out.  Then we got out Clue Jr, but it was missing pieces.  Finally I pulled down Geo Cards USAGideon didn't know many states (yet) but he quizzed me on the nicknames.  Not remembering as many as I used to, he acted out hints.  Playing with Gideon is fun adventure and my happy for today.

Short

Some days when I get home from work everything that happened during the day is gone from my mind and I am home.  Today that meant a nap and laundry.  Tonight as I think about my day I have to work real hard to remember what went on.  The students were allowed to go outside at snack time because the weather is finally nice enough.  In an attempt to for exercise, a coworker and I have started going around the building twice at lunch time.  It is almost 3/4 of a mile to do that.  Every bit is better than none.  The one thing that sticks out for today's happy is the warm cut grass smell that wafted in the windows at school.  A vague memory of the last day of school before summer break as a kid is where the scent brought me.

Happy May Day-short post

Yesterday the after school DnD gaming club went well.  I wish I could say it was spectacular, maybe next week.  Today after school was cooking club.  We made waffles and eggs/omelets.  After a slow start where we seem to have blown the circuit trying to run 4 waffle irons at the same time, things went mostly well.  One waffle burned.  My happy for today is that we caught the incident fast enough and set the smoking waffle iron outside and the fire alarm didn't go off.

Morning fog rising off the highway.
