Happy Halloween

If you read yesterday's blog and are wondering-yes, I wore the skirt; no, I don't think there is a picture; yes, I need to adjust a couple things/put on finishing touches.  Today's happy is Trick or Treating with Gideon, K, Z and some of their friends.

One the way to see friends.

The spider on the walk way moves and makes noises.

We believe the person handing out candy is King Friday.

Gideon is a werewolf, howling.
His friend is Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

My apologies if this is sideways and for the finger shot.
Watch what the guy on the second floor does.

Sew Happy-Short Post

The skirt I started yesterday is mostly finished tonight.  When I say mostly, it is wearable, but I am sure that there will need to be some refining later.  All the work I did and I won't be sure that I will wear it until I put it on in the morning and see how truly comfortable it is with leggings under it.  Today however, today finishing that skirt is my happy thing.  That and getting all 10,000+ steps in today.  👟

There is a problem uploading pictures.  Not sure what it is.  My apologies if all the pics are broken.

Season Musing

After school Dungeons and Dragons went alright today.  I was able to get my computer running again, which is where my notes are, so that helped.  We also only had about 20 minutes of game time once the few new kids got their character sheets made.  There is still a bunch of organizing of data that I need to do before next Monday.

The day started out rainy but when I left school it was sunny bright with scattered puffy clouds.  By the time I got to my friend's house, it was a dark cloudy again.  We got ready for a walk and it was starting to clear here too.  There are some sky/foliage pictures below.  Most of the leaves are past their prime color at this point.  I still love how all the different shades come together, even when many of the shades are brown or gray.  When I was a child and didn't understand that other parts of the world didn't have four seasons, I may have had a favorite.  I don't remember what it may have been.  I am sure if asked, I came up with something.  As an older adult, who has lived where the seasons change without the definition that it does in New England, I don't have a favorite.   What I think I appreciate most is the changing of the seasons.  When winter snows melt and the smell of spring first comes in the air and the birds return from their winter homes... when the spring flowers make way for the summer ones and all the leaves are bursting with life... when the heat of the summer is pushed away by the cool breezes of autumn and the colors in the leaves brighten before falling in piles... when the now bare trees in autumn get that fine layer of a first snow and that cold, dusty smell of the snow as winter starts to creep in.

This evening I reminded myself how to sew.  Okay, I probably didn't really forget, but it didn't come as naturally as I would have liked.  I have had some fabric that I purchased in January I think that I started making a skirt with.  Walks with friends and sewing are my happy things for today.

Not All Bad

My computer doesn't want to boot for me.  This is not the first time this has happened, but every other time it has eventually started up.  This is unfortunate,  I am hopeful that tomorrow will be better for the machine... Tonight I am using my phone.

This afternoon I purchased some supplies to go with fabric I bought a while back.  I had hoped to start making a skirt.  I second guessed my patterning though and ran out of time.

Enough of the negative things.   My happy things for today include meeting with friends, walking,  making dinner for the family, foliage, and getting myself mostly prepared for work tomorrow.

Dungeon Creation

Part of a Dungeon Master's job is creating a dungeon.  This weekend one of the things I am trying to do is to create the campaign for the school D&D group.  There are two other DM's so it is possible that whatever I come up with won't be used.  Either way, I need to have something to start.  Just like last year I started watching youtube videos to help figure this all out.  The video I found today (link) is a continuation of a series I watched previously, but for the DM rather than the player.  It presented some good ideas and I am planning to use some of those and combining with other things I have read or watched or made up in my mind.  Learning the characters and monsters is almost more important to me than the 'where' aspect.  If I know all the 'who' parts and the 'why' I can make up some of the other things.   I get the who, what, when, where, and why the players take care of the how.   Tomorrow I may go out and buy some of the things that could help me do this.  I inherited a bunch of dice over the summer, so that is all set.

Watching these videos and talking about the game with Gideon is my happy for today.  We are keeping each other company tonight while his parents are out.

Snug as two bugs in a rug!

Halloween Howl

Tonight the city closed up part of Main St. to vehicles and stores stayed open late to hand out candy to hundreds of people.  Walking along I saw a man and his dog.  I assume the dog was Robin, because the man was Batman.  The dog was in a costume and looking at a woman who was taking a picture of him.  I didn't realize that the dog was posing for the picture, complete with smile, until the camera went down and the dog stopped the pose.  Now this could just be me seeing what I want to see, but that is what it looked like.  I saw all this as I walked by and it only registered in my brain as I was passing them exactly what I had witnessed.  The Halloween Howl is my happy for today.

Some random and not so random shots.

Just a Happy

About once a month I have an appointment with the chiropractor.  Today was that day.  It was just in time as my lower back was becoming problematic.  I believe it was affecting my mood.  So I have been adjusted and feel a little better because of it.  This is my happy for today.  Oh, but I thought of something else.  Because I am the incoming Baroness of my local SCA group we are looking for design ideas to become my favor (something that I will hand out to people as a thank you or recognition).  I learned there are at least four ideas submitted so far.  The deadline is Thanksgiving, I think.  So this is kind of exciting.  😊

Some sunrise shots.

A little foliage.

Fire Tower Take Two--lots of pics

After work today I got to watch Gideon while my daughter went to visit a friend recovering from a surgery.  I suggested we go for a walk to the fire tower.  He wasn't crazy about going at first, he had been playing video games, but his mom convinced him to go.  He was a little confused about us getting into the car to do this walk. It turns out that he was thinking fire station and not fire tower.  I explained to him what a fire tower was and a little about the trail as we drove there.

The dirt way up the hill was strewn with leaves.  As we walked along Gideon told me of his plans to write a book for a friend of his at school.  It will be based in the Harry Potter world and will have two sisters that are in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.  I'm looking forward to reading it.  This story-thinking in combination with the occasional distraction of nature, other hikers and puddles kept him pretty well entertained all the way up.  Eventually we came to the cellular tower and then the fire tower and I believe, radio tower.  I convinced him to climb the stairs with me.  Once we got to the top I decided that I was a little nervous about him being up there pacing while I took pictures, so I had him sit.  It was windy and colder that little bit above most of the treeline.

Pictures taken, we headed back down.  Gideon didn't like going down the stairs of the tower too much.  I wanted him to back down like a ladder, but he went forward.  That ended up being fine with his child sized shoes.  As is usually the way, the walk down the hill took less time than going up.  This was a good thing since there wasn't a restroom for Gideon to use.  It was getting colder on the trail as the sun lowered in the sky.  We got back to the car just before the official sunset time but with plenty of light still in the sky.

After a little Google search and help from a coworker, I learned that there is a patch program that one can earn a patch for climbing up enough of the fire towers.  Maybe someday I will give that a try.  That little adventure that we went on to the fire tower is my happy for today.

Wacky Wednesday at my school and Gideon had to wear orange at his.
